#7 EVERYTHING IS A REMIX

When we think about the concept of creativity and originality, we of course imagine a never before seen creation. "Everything is a remix "explores the idea that at this point in time there are rarely any new completely original ideas, that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. The doc. interacts with the concept of "copy and alter". Getting to the point that creativity requires influence. Then of course justifies it, continuing the argument that we are all working with the same materials and precursors. The doc definitely makes us question if originality still exists or if everything is juts a remix of something else.

I'd have to say that I agree. There's only so much that can be done now that so much has already been made with the materials we have. It reminds of the phrase "you can't re-invent the wheel", you can't create without having an image of something that already exists. I think a good example of this theory is shown in current music and how they've sampled older songs to create new ones.

Of course in architecture, the same thing happens. We all use previously designed buildings as examples for whatever we are working on. We need to see what works and what doesn't and someone else before us has already done something similar to different conditions so we can take what we learned from previous works and see how we can use it to make our work ,well, work.
