Writer's picture: Joyce Delgado Joyce Delgado

"Buildings are beautiful when people feel well in them."

Anne Lacation starts the main goals for their firm are : generosity of space, bioclimatic design, economy, never creating constraints of use, encourage dialogue, and to design from the inside out but most of all they want their work to have a social impact. Anna made sure to point out the fact that the economy of budget wasn't a constraint but more a freeing tool that aided in setting priorities, reusing techniques and finding new ways to use them to be efficient while on a tight budget.

They mainly work with housing projects. One particular project was very important in the re-imagining a traditional pre fabricated house and double the space. They proposed a green house space to expand and maximize the space. This is where the subject of the class starts to blend in. With the use of old concepts, the greenhouse, and apply it to their needs in the housing project and then continued to re-use the greenhouse in other house and educational projects. This proves the fact that we can take the a working concept, copy it, transform it and move forward and that we don't need to come up with new ideas taking risks when we already have tools. She then ends explaining that this principle can not only apply to government funded projects on a smaller budget but also individual and independent projects with a bigger budget.
