Google got involved in what they described as "the copyright case of the decade. "The problem arose because Oracle, who owned JavaScript, the coding language, stated that using parts of this language in their code would qualify as a copyright infringement. Google's argument in the case was that access to these tools was an important part in innovation and future development, and that they were under the protection of fair use. The conversation shifted into whether what Google was doing with the code was actually fair use. They revealed it was ridiculous to limit the use of such an important part of technology that would aid in furthering the new technological era. JavaScript, as well as previous architectural knowledge shouldn't be gatekept since they're tools that would definitely help our field succeed.
